Cheshire and Warrington Sustainable & Inclusive Economic Strategy
The strategy provides a clear blueprint for how our region will work with government, industry, and partners to drive clean energy leadership, nature recovery, economic growth, and improved opportunities for all residents.
Since carrying out our initial public consultation to develop our evidence base and priorities in 2023 (details are outlined in the attachments below), we have recently concluded our second public consultation on the draft of the Strategy. The Cheshire and Warrington Combined Authority Shadow Board has now approved our ambitious 20-year strategy that will transform our region into the UK's healthiest, most sustainable, inclusive and fastest-growing area by 2045.
The strategy, which is now available to read below, sets out a series of action areas that respond to the challenges and opportunities identified. It aims to deliver the highest rate of economic and productivity growth in the North by capitalising on our region's existing strengths to accelerate prosperity. We also want to deliver 4.5 million tonnes of annual carbon reduction by 2030, positioning us as leaders in clean energy and climate action, as well as providing expanded opportunity and reduced poverty through improved transport, digital connectivity and access to quality housing.
It acknowledges that effective collaboration will be essential to achieve this, with diverse stakeholders including businesses of all sizes and sectors, community and voluntary sectors, education, the health and wider public sector, and the diverse communities living and/or working in Cheshire and Warrington.
Thank you to all those who attended our summer workshops and offered feedback to shape the creation of the strategy. Our consultation report is available to read here.
