A Warrington man has leapt at the chance at landing his dream job as a personal trainer after completing a Skills Bootcamp.

Run by local employers, colleges and independent training providers, the 16-week flexible training skills bootcamp programmes help employers recruit people with the right skills, upskill existing staff and give residents the chance to learn sector-specific skills and get a guaranteed interview.

In May 2024, Enterprise Cheshire and Warrington confirmed that it had secured more than £2m in government funding to create a further 640 places on around 40 Skills Bootcamps covering subjects from artificial intelligence and covert surveillance to railway construction.

Its data reveals that 900 people in the region have signed up to one of the region’s Skills Bootcamps in the last three years.

In Alistair’s case, he enrolled on a 16-week Futures Training Group Personal Trainer Skills Bootcamp.

The fully-funded programme helps Cheshire and Warrington residents with the resources and training to qualify as a personal trainer as well as helping employers recruit people with the right skills.

With face-to-face delivery and coursework, candidates receive a CIMSPA approved L3 Diploma in gym instructing and personal training and a guaranteed job interview upon completion of the bootcamp.

Alistair Williams, 45, has spent most of his adult life as an engineer, most recently working for United Utilities, but always had an unrealised ambition to become a personal trainer.

So when he discovered the fully-funded Personal Trainer Skills Bootcamp run by Jake Worrall of the Futures Training Group he jumped at the chance.

And Alistair proved such a natural that after completing the programme, he successfully set up his own personal training business operating out of Pure Gym Warrington last September.

Since then, Alistair has increased his client base massively.

Throughout the bootcamp, learners are assessed and get personalised feedback from the lecturers to help participants to improve on their current practices.

Urging others to follow their ambitions and sign up to a skills bootcamp he said: “I would definitely recommend the skills bootcamp to help local people who have wanted to gain this set of skills but haven’t been able to because of costs or other commitments.

Thank you to Jake (Worrall) for his support throughout the programme and for such a great opportunity to progress my career in personal training.”

Jake Worrall, Director of The Futures Training Group, said: "It is fantastic for myself and the team at the Futures Training Group to play a part in turning someone's dream career into a reality.

Alistair showed 100% commitment from the very first point of contact with us & he deserves every bit of success that he has already achieved and I am sure much more to come in the future."
