Treacle Celebrates

Marketing Cheshire Cheshire East visitor economy Macclesfield

25th July is the next Treacle Market and its 11th Birthday

Throughout 2020 Treacle Market trod carefully and always prioritised public safety in delivering the market. This meant they did not trade in July last year and missed the chance to celebrate their 10th Anniversary,  like so many others who missed significant birthdays and more.

So this month sees the 11th Birthday of this well love Macclesfield market. As Covid restrictions are lifted  they still won’t be ‘going mad’ but hope  traders will push  the boat out  with decorations on their stalls. There will be the usual enticing mix of quality Antiques, Crafts and delicious things to eat in the street food area on St Michael’s Church lawns-  just the spot for a Treacle picnic. And the renowned Treacle music will be back!

This month sees new faces at Treacle too. Becky and Andy Thompson have been helping at Treacle for the last few months, donning the orange High Vis alongside other volunteers to ensure visitors have felt comfortable and safe whilst at the Market during Covid.

These organisers of Macc Hospitality have now joined forces with Jane Munro and will be rolling up their sleeves on a permanent basis to deliver Treacle Market. With plenty of experience of event management and strong relationships with businesses in the town they are just the right fit to continue to deliver the Treacle Market we all know and love. Jane who started the market in 2010 will be taking a back seat but will still be behind the scenes with the skills honed from the last 11 years at the Treacle helm.

‘Treacle can be tough on a wet Winter’s day but when the sun is out and visitors are tapping their feet by the band or picnicking on the Church lawns I simply wouldn’t be anywhere else in the world.’

Jane adds  ‘The Treacle family is made up of wonderful,  mutually supportive traders and I feel so lucky to have been around such talented and creative people, doing what I have been  for all these years. The loyalty of Macc people who have supported us in all weathers is just incredible and I will miss the many friends I have made standing on the cobbles in Market Place. But it’s time to take a back seat and Andy and Becky have loads of  ideas on how to build on that solid Treacle foundation. I am excited to see what comes next.’

Becky and Andy bring not only their pertinent skills and experience but a real love for the town where they live and a determination to ensure that Treacle continues to be at the heart of the Macclesfield Community.

Becky says  ‘in the early days Treacle Market actually pioneered the artisan type market that is more widespread now but has always stuck to it’s early values and distinctive style,  while earning  a national reputation it has  stayed a valued part of the town itself. That’s why we are so keen to be involved. We look forward to carrying on that tradition of working with other stakeholders, CEC and the Town Council and working towards  a positive future for the town as we emerge from Covid’.

25th July is the next Treacle Market and the event’s 11th Birthday. Roll on the next 11 years!
