Mere Golf Resort & Spa has been purchased by Select Group
A luxury golf club and hotel in Cheshire has been sold to a Dubai-based property firm. The Mere Golf Resort and Spa in Knutsford has been purchased by Select Group.
The company, which described the venue as one of the most 'distinguished' in the north of England, revealed its desire to 'elevate the hotel's positioning to a heightened luxury level'. There are plans to refurbish both the interior and exterior.
Rahail Aslam, founder and CEO of Select Group, said: "We truly believe that Mere Golf Resort & Spa has a high potential to become the best resort of its class in the north-west of England, and we are looking forward to achieving this goal by working closely together with the hotel team."
The Mere Golf Resort and Spa, which is located on Chester Road near the A50 in Mere, has 81 'luxurious' guest bedrooms with a capacity of up to 550 people. It is known for its championship-standard golf course and golf services as well as its spa and health club.
The plans to refurbish the resort include upgrading the rooms as well as the public spaces and facilities. New rooms will also be added in a bid to 'continue to attract international and domestic corporate and leisure travellers'.
Gary Johnson, the Mere's general manager, said: "The team and I are excited about this acquisition as it will secure our path to becoming the best resort in the region."
