Exporting Case Study: TMC Strategic Communications
70% of TMC’s services are exported to outside of the UK
King’s Award winning strategic communications agency exports 70% of creative services
Congleton business TMC is a full-service strategic communications and marketing agency. Operating across the UK and Denmark, they specialise in harnessing data, using inspiring technology, and leveraging the power of emotion to create positive impact.
With 17 years of successful delivery for clients across the Healthcare and STEM Sectors, their service provision extends beyond their marketing, creative and digital departments to include innovative 3D solutions, developing highly engaging and impactful content to educate, persuade and excite audiences.
An international network, spanning across Healthcare, Science & Technology
The nature of the sectors TMC specialises in, has been a strong influence over the way they approach international trade. With long-standing relationships with prominent European medical associations, global healthcare companies and leading technology pioneers, TMC has woven international exporting considerations into its strategy from the beginning.
70% of TMC’s services are exported to outside of the UK, serving organisations across Europe, Middle East and Africa, with content seen in over 158 countries. Translated into multiple languages and targeted at specific international demographics, their campaigns have helped clients achieve elevated brand awareness, enhanced reputation and commercial success – all from their dedicated head office in the heart of Cheshire.
Overcoming a changing commercial landscape to embrace opportunity
Whilst the significance of both Brexit and COVID-19 presented challenges, TMC’s agility and ability to pivot and embrace technology, enabled them to view both milestones as a motivator for growth. With a strong network of resources provided by the East Cheshire Chamber of Commerce, the Cheshire and Warrington Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP), and the Department for Business and Trade (DBT) TMC took advantage of the wealth of support available, positioning the new landscape as an opportunity.
Many of TMC’s existing international clients were restricted by procurement processes following Brexit, in many instances limited to dealing primarily with EU-national suppliers. This change proved the incentive for TMC to open their new EU office in Copenhagen, Denmark, where former employee (and Danish national) Natascha Kronborg-Lauritzen has taken the helm to expand TMC’s client base on the continent.
Jackie Randles, Chief Executive of East Cheshire Chamber of Commerce stated, “TMC have been members of East Cheshire Chamber for 15 years. They have become a vibrant part of our local community and we are pleased to have supported them in growing their network and advising on some of the challenges they initially faced to support their pivot. The British Chambers of Commerce network in overseas markets are an excellent resource of which many businesses are unaware, so we are delighted to see this relationship flourish and, of course, to have a King’s Award winner as an active member of the Chamber.”
Growth anticipated across the EU and USA
Having won the prestigious King’s Award for Enterprise in the International Trade category, earlier in 2023, TMC have been able to accelerate their relationship-building in further territories. Recognised across the world as the ultimate ‘Royal seal of approval’ the award further reinforces the quality of their service provision and their credibility as a partner of choice.
Led by their Danish team, TMC have since fostered fantastic relationships with the British Chamber of Commerce in Denmark, with multiple initiatives planned over the next 12 months including the co-hosting of an industry panel discussion on ‘Purpose Beyond Profit’. TMC will also soon be exhibiting and guest-speaking at Denmark’s first Sustainability conference; ‘Reboot’, where they plan to showcase their unique point of difference to organisations ready to embrace the changing narrative around topics such as Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) accountability.
Further afield across the Atlantic, TMC were recently invited to a high-profile PharmaMarketing Summit in Boston, MA, where CEO Tim McCloud hosted a dynamic round-table session on ‘Building Patient-Brand Trust’; exploring how Marketers can more effectively leverage ESG initiatives into their communications.
Tim commented, “It is vital that value can be put on professional services as an export, as our ideas and the decisions that we affect have a direct impact on people’s lives. One we take with great responsibility and a determined effort to ensure we leave a lasting positive legacy.”
