Crewe’s heritage vision on track with exciting updates
These are exciting projects that are step changes for Crewe.
The protection and promotion of heritage in Crewe is a key priority for Crewe Town Council and a number of major developments have recently been announced that will help to achieve the shared vision for the town and benefit Crewe and surrounding areas.
- Crewe Heritage Trust (the Heritage Centre)
- Following a competitive tender process, 6a architects has been awarded a contract to develop the Crewe Heritage Centre Feasibility Study. The study is being funded by an UKSPF grant (UK Shared Prosperity Fund), which has been awarded to Crewe Town Council, and will explore the feasibility of shared ambitions and vision for the Heritage Centre as an engineering and heritage attraction in Crewe. The Feasibility Study will be used to secure external funding for significant capital redevelopment of the site.
- The first steps have been taken to seek funding for a Heritage Centre Learning Officer to develop education workshops at the site through formal and informal learning activities. This will provide enhanced access to schools within the Crewe town boundary and also be available to non-Crewe parish boundary schools.
- A new Heritage Centre Manager has been appointed to oversee the site and implement the new developments, taking over the reins from the current site manager who will retire later this year.
- Conservation Area Project
- Purcell UK has been appointed to work to identify areas of heritage significance in Crewe and undertake a comprehensive Conservation Area Appraisal and Management Plan has been launched. The project is expected to last a year.
