Crewe BID invests in enhanced cleaning on Nantwich Road

27/02/2026

Nantwich Road is a busy route with a mix of businesses.

Crewe Business Improvement District has completed a second phase of enhanced cleaning on Nantwich Road, one of Crewe’s busiest routes.

Following an initial phase carried out late last year, the works form part of a wider programme to maintain and improve key areas of the town.

Carried out overnight to avoid disruption, the latest phase included steam cleaning pavements, removing chewing gum, cleaning tree pits and repainting street furniture.

Earlier improvement works at the Mill Street junction in December included cleaning walkways, cutting back overgrown greenery, unblocking a drainage grid and removing accumulated chewing gum, which this programme now builds upon.

Graham Saunders, Chair of Crewe BID and General Manager of South Cheshire Glass, said: “Nantwich Road is a busy route with a mix of businesses, residents and people passing through every day. Keeping areas like this clean and well maintained is a core part of what the BID is here to do. This programme is about making practical improvements that businesses can see and that make a difference to how the street looks and functions day to day.”

The works were fully funded by Crewe BID, using levy contributions from local businesses, and delivered in partnership with Nantwich Road Action Group to ensure the work responded to local priorities.

Simon Yates from Nantwich Road Action Group said: “Regular cleaning and maintenance help keep the street in good order, and it’s positive to see continued work being carried out here. This is a visible change that people notice and it helps Nantwich Road feel tidier and better cared for, which is important for a busy stretch like this.”

Representing levy-paying businesses across Crewe town centre, Grand Junction Retail Park and Nantwich Road, Crewe Business Improvement District delivers projects that support local businesses and maintain the town’s environment.
